Technical data
The simplex atomizer Fluid Control Instruments Ltd has been manufacturing for many years now, has been developed up to a level of quality without compromises. It certainly is not a cheap product, but offers a lot of advantages in demanding applications where quality and reliability are of top importance. The ‘chamber’ at the front of the atomizer protects the cone of the bore to prevent damage caused by possible rough handling. The filters consist of sintered bronze balls instead of cut-wire, resulting in a better mutual bond and a much more uniform filter maze. Besides the ribbed outer filter, to provide a larger filter area, a secondary inner filter is mounted. The internal geometry makes the flow rate less depending on changes in oil temperature. These atomizers are 100% tested, within narrow tolerances in terms of flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern.
Technical data
- Flow rate: 0.15 – 60.00 Gph (≈ 0.5 – 230 kg/h)
- Spray angle: 45° – 60° – 80°
- Shut-off needle: Not applicable (pressure atomizer without needle)
- Spray pattern: Solid – Hollow
All figures are nominal reference values at 5 cSt fuel viscosity. Final dimensions are fixed together with the burner head and are confirmed on the order drawing.
Applications
Fields of application
- Light and heavy fuel oil burners from domestic up to medium industrial size
- Burners that are tested and certified to EN 293 / EN 299 (Simplex atomizer SF / HF)
- Fixed drip and water atomization duties (special executions)
Datasheets, drawings, output curves and manuals for this series are published in the documentation library.
Fluid Control Instruments Ltd manufactures to order and quotes per project: send burner head drawings, fuel specification and required flow range to receive a binding quotation.
Features
- Flow rate 0.15 – 60.00 Gph
- Spray angle 45° – 60° – 80°
- Spray pattern Solid – Hollow

- Protective chamber in front of the bore, double sintered-bronze filter
- Standard Fluid Control Instruments Ltd quality: 100 % tested for flow rate, spray angle and spray pattern.
Frequently asked questions
Which flow rate range does this series cover?
The published range is 0.15 – 60.00 Gph (≈ 0.5 – 230 kg/h). Because the atomizer is machined per order, intermediate values inside the range are available as well; send the required output at full load and at minimum load with the burner head drawing.
How large is the turn-down ratio, and how is it achieved?
The turn-down ratio is 0.15 – 60.00 Gph (≈ 0.5 – 230 kg/h). The atomizer is dimensioned for the burner head, and the return-flow (spill-back) or atomizing-medium control keeps the spray pattern stable across the whole modulation band.
Do we need a shut-off needle, and what does it change?
This series is available without. A shut-off needle closes the nozzle orifice when the burner stops, so no fuel drips into the combustion chamber after shutdown; without it the burner head must provide the sealing function.
Which fuels can be atomized?
Light and heavy fuel oil are the standard duty, including used oil and vegetable oils where viscosity and contamination stay inside the agreed window. The internal geometry is chosen so that the flow rate depends as little as possible on oil temperature; always state density, viscosity and operating temperature when requesting a quotation.
What is the lead time and the minimum order quantity?
Atomizers are made to order; a typical lead time is about 42 days after drawing approval, and the minimum order quantity is 1 piece. Consumable items such as orifices, swirlers, discs and needles are normally available from stock.
Can this series replace the atomizer that is installed today?
Yes in most cases. Send the old order number, a photo of the burner head and the required output; we compare the spray angle, the pattern and the interface with the original Fluid Control Instruments Ltd drawing and confirm which type is interchangeable before the order is placed.
